WHY CHOOSE HEMP

Origin of hemp

This fabric originates from an old plant known as hemp, which has been used in China for over 8000 years, and from where we still obtain it today. As well as being known known as the "golden fabric," hemp is one of the oldest natural fibers for textiles. Hemp is a bast fiber, but its fibers are quite different from the common flax and ramie types of bast fibers. Owing to the fact that hemp fibers are finer and have rounded ends, make it smoother to the touch unlike the usual rough and scratchy feel of most bast fibers.

Hemp is grown in a variety of different types of terrain in China and these include hilly areas, flat landscapes, and salty soils. This characteristic of growing easily anywhere is an advantage since the plant does not necessitate the use of pesticides or herbicides; thus, they are suitable for sustainable agriculture.

Characteristics of Hemp

Hemp fibers possess several unique characteristics that make them highly desirable for home products:

Moisture Absorption and Breathability - Hemp fibers are well known to contain numerous natural cavities which all for the absorption of moisture while at the same time let air through. This property makes hemp excel in its capacity to absorb water and take it away from the skin better than other bast fibers, and thus remain cool even when it is hot during summer months.

Natural Sun Protection - Generally, hemp fabrics do not need to undergo any kind of treatment and are able to block over 95% of UV rays which exceeds that of most normal fabrics. This makes hemp suitable for use in curtains, table cloths, and other home products that gain from protection of the sun.

Strength and Durability - Hemp is a very strong and flexible fabric and unlike ramie fibers, which harden after washing, hemp fabric becomes softer and more shiny with each wash. Its long durability ensures that the more one uses it, the better it gets as its quality improves.

 Advantages of Hemp

The multiple advantages of hemp fibers make them an excellent choice for high-quality home products:

Antibacterial and Antimicrobial Properties - Hemp contains trace amounts of hemp phenols and various other beneficial trace elements that give it strong antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Tests have shown that hemp fabric can eliminate over 99% of bacteria within an hour, ensuring hygienic and healthy products.

Excellent Moisture-Wicking and Cooling Effects - The capillary effect and surface cracks of hemp fibers allow for superior moisture absorption and rapid evaporation, keeping the fabric dry and cool. Compared to cotton, hemp can lower the body temperature by approximately 5 degrees Celsius, making it ideal for summer use.

High UV Protection - Hemp fibers retain a certain amount of lignin even after degumming, which acts as a natural UV absorber. This enhances its UV protection capabilities, making it perfect for sun-blocking home products like curtains and tablecloths.

Application Examples

Hemp fibers are used in a wide variety of home products:

Bedding - Hemp bedding products such as sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases are not only soft to the touch but also regulate temperature effectively, providing a comfortable sleep environment. The moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties ensure a hygienic and pleasant sleeping experience suitable for all seasons.

Tableware - Hemp tableware items, including tablecloths, napkins, and placemats, are not only aesthetically pleasing but also offer excellent stain resistance and antibacterial properties. The natural UV protection helps maintain the vibrant colors of these items over time.

Curtains - Hemp curtains provide excellent light-blocking capabilities and effectively shield indoor environments from harmful UV rays. The durability and flexibility of hemp fibers ensure that curtains maintain their appearance and function even after prolonged use.

Understanding the origin, production process, and benefits of hemp reveals its immense potential in modern life.
